AFGHANS Biccuits ( Cookies I think USA call them. biggrin.gif )

200 g( 8 oz) butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/4 cups plain flour
1/4 cup cocoa
2 cups cornflaces

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Sift in the flour and cocoa.
Stir flour and cocoa into the creamed mixture.
Fold in the cornflakes and mix well.
Spoon mounds of mixture onto a tray covered with baking paper and press down slightly.
Bake at 180C (350 F ) for about 15 minutes.
When cold ice with chocolaet icing and decorate with half a walnut if desired.
Makes about 30.

I only put the icing right in the middle, not all over them. Enjoy.

Now that sounds nice Maggie, and simple as well. Definitely will be giving this a try.

Can you post the icing recipe? I left my cookbook in Brazil, and I'm really regretting it. Cry1.gif
Maggie
Vickie all as I do is, about
1 cup Icing sugar
1 tsp cocoa
1 tsp melted butter
then add SMALL dribbles of water till the mixture is
stiffish than spread on with a hot knife.
Vickie
Thanks. tsp is teaspoon, not tablespoon, right?
Maggie
Your right. teaspoon "tsp"
tablespoon "Tbsp"
dessertspoon " dsp"

Haven't made these for ages Maggie and I don't have a recipe so thanks for that. Mum used to make them with choc chips in them too and no icing...yummy.

I decided to make these for my DS's snacks at school this week. I was wondering, is one cup 200ml or 250ml? (A Brazilian cup is 200, an American cup is 250) Also, do I use unsweetened baking cocoa (American), or sweetened cocoa powder that's for flavoring milk (Brazilian)? I'm so confused! wacko.gif All I need is to move somewhere else! tongue.gif
Maggie
Vickie a cup is 250 mls and it's unsweetened baking cocoa, we make drinks out of the baking one and just add sugar.
Vickie
Argh! It's been one of those days. I measured the butter wrong, doh.gif so the butter, sugar, flour, and cocoa mixed together made a super fine powdery mixture. cc_confused.gif Somehow I couldn't see adding the cornflakes to that. g.gif I recalculated & discovered that I'd left out about half the butter. dry.gif So, I added it *after* the flour and cocoa powder were already mixed in. Not quite sure what that'll do to them. The first tray is cooling now.

On the bright side, I did peek in the oven--it seems just *before* the paper caught on fire. A lot of smoke,Cry1.gif but no fire.yahoo.gif

I'm going to bed.

Update:
I stayed up to finish what I started. (Can I have some brownie points? I'd accept just brownies.) biggrin.gif
The afghans are great. We like them. thumbup.gif
I'm still alive. I didn't even burn myself on the hot knife. yahoo.gif
*Now* I'm going to bed. smile.gif

Don't burn your house down! !rolling.gif

DH says they're awesome, but he's wondering (& I am too) why they're called afghans. Anyone know?
