Snickerdoodles
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 3/4 c. sifted flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
Cream butter, shortening, sugar and eggs, then add vanilla. In another bowl, mix flour, baking powder and salt and then incorporate your wet and dry ingredients. Form into balls and roll in a cinnamon & sugar mixture (approximately 1/2 c. sugar and 2 tsp. cinnamon). Bake at 400 for approximately 10 minutes.

My mother in law used to make these and i loved them, its forever since i had them..i should try them again!

I made these for our cookie exchange last Christmas and they were a hit... they are so good! We are having it again this year and not decided on what ones to make this time.

They're a glorified sugar cookie Deb ... they aren't my favorite but my DH and DD loved them. I have to say though ... my recipe calls for 10 minutes baking but that would depend on the oven you use and the type of pan you use. I actually baked mine for about 8-1/2 minutes and they were fine.
Don't let them stay on the hot cookie sheets too long either or they will be hard and over cooked.

I was thinking that the recipe I had made was a bit differnt so went to look..and they have 1 tsp of black pepper in them.

I just went to make them and realised I had only one egg so I googled a 1 egg cake

. I realise I could've halfed the recipe but decided I'd wait til I get groceries. Gee pepper would give a different flavour Benita.

Pepper ... now that's something I wouldn't ever think would be in a snickerdoodle ... but hey it might add a completely different taste to the whole thing. Hmmm ... you should post your recipe to Benita.

- Snickerdoodles
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 tsp ground pepper
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
- Cream together butter, shortening, 1 1/2 cups sugar, the eggs and the vanilla. Blend in the flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt. Shape dough by rounded spoonfuls into balls.
- Mix the 2 tablespoons sugar and the cinnamon. Roll balls of dough in mixture. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until set but not too hard. Remove immediately from baking sheets.
